Batam's Exports and Tourism Expected to Surge Significantly by the End of 2025

Batam, (3/2) – "Batam City's trade balance in December 2025 again recorded positive performance with export value reaching US$ 1,651.89 million, up 1.29 percent compared to the previous month. The tourism sector also closed the year positively, where foreign tourist visits jumped sharply by 53.15 percent compared to November 2025," said the Head of BPS Batam City, Eko Aprianto.
A release from the Batam City Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded exports in December 2025 at US$1,651.89 million, an increase compared to exports in November 2025 of US$1,630.87 million. Compared to December 2024, exports increased by 23.12 percent. Meanwhile, Batam City's imports in December 2025 reached US$1,470.58 million, a 3.57 percent increase compared to November 2025
"December 2025's export performance was dominated by the non-oil and gas sector, reaching US$1,594.45 million, a 0.72 percent increase compared to the previous month. The largest non-oil and gas export was the Machinery/Electrical Equipment (HS 85) category, valued at US$842.49 million. The United States was the largest export destination this month, valued at US$482.06 million, a 38.28 percent increase compared to December 2024," Eko added.
In terms of imports, China will be the largest supplier of imported goods in December 2025, valued at US$645.43 million. Batu Ampar Port remains the main trade gateway, serving the largest export volume of 171.58 thousand tons and import volume of 247.78 thousand tons in December 2025.
Foreign Tourist Visits Surge at Year-End
The tourism sector recorded a record-high increase this month. The number of foreign tourist visits to Batam City in December 2025 reached 195,525.
"This number represents a drastic 53.15 percent jump compared to the previous month's 127,667 visits. Singaporean tourists dominated the number of visits, accounting for 55.13 percent of the total number of foreign tourists," said Eko.
This increase in tourism activity has had a positive impact on accommodation occupancy. The Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) of star-rated hotels in Batam City reached 63.33 percent in December 2025, a 5.97-point increase compared to the 57.36 percent TPK in November 2025.
Sea and Air Passenger Activity Increases Rapidly
In line with the tourism sector, the transportation sector also shows a significant increase in activity, both in air and sea transportation modes.
For air transportation, the number of domestic passengers arriving and departing in December 2025 was recorded at 345,107, a 12.48 percent increase compared to November. International air passengers also increased by 8.00 percent to 13,544.
"The sharpest increase occurred in maritime transportation. The number of international maritime passengers in December 2025 reached 603,687, a 43.08 percent increase compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, domestic maritime passengers reached 390,414, a 24.67 percent increase compared to November 2025," Eko concluded in closing the release.
